And btw- don't get into a 1/4mi dragrace against a Blast, it will kick a Burg 400's AZZ! And once you get over 80mph, the wind drag really plays a part on top speed. PS- contrary to what you believe, the Burgman 400 won't do 100mph, the 650 version can, but not the 400(btw-your speedo is highly optimistic). I have proven to myself (with my 585cc/51 HP engine) that increased HP and Redline will equal much higher top speeds.įYI- you need to increase HP and redline if you want much more than 100mph.lowering the weight will help acceleration alot, but top speed will remain the same if the the motor is rev limited, and still only producing meager HP numbers. So couple that, with a rev limiter that kicks off at 6500rpm, and in 5th gear that = 96mph. Sorry to disagree with you Brassnadz, but the tranny and gear ratio's are fine, the Blast only does make about 28rwhp in stock form, and is quite the heavy bike for that HP. Good luck trying to make it anything else. It will probably be better to get a different bike. I would guess it will cost a whole lot of money to get a Blast or Rebel to 100 mph, especially for long periods of time. I did a demo ride on a Blast and have ridden a Rebel a few times. PS- the first model year(2000) Blast used taller gearing-before it was recalled for pulley failures, and with that gearing, those first Blast DID pull 100mph top speeds if you crawled under the blast doesn't use paint on it's Surlyn skins, but you know what i mean :p Great read.Either you rode a bad one, or you're the size of a truck, but I'm a big guy and can usually hit the rev limiter on any stock blast in 5th gear, and that = 96mph ! BTW- when I built my first (585cc)race motor for my Blast, and upped the rev limter to 7600rpm, I was timed on radar(don't ask) hitting 114mph ! And fyi- that engine produced just a tad over 50rwhp !Īnd another FYI- the stock blast has a short stroke(3.125") engine, but it still has a 3.5" bore and uses a Lightning head, the damn things will run at redline(6500rpm) all day long ! And also, they have the coolest engine temps of ANY Harley Evo engine, with peak oil temps on a 95º day of only 190º F.ĭon't belittle(no pun intended) a bike/engine, that you know very little about ! I hope he finds his way back into the game because he seems lost without it. The level of mental problems his fought through must have been devastating to cope with and missing his kids growing up to the extent he feels disconnected to them now in retirement is heart breaking. Controversial but interesting stuff to read.ĭidn't get on with his country and county team mate Collingwood come the end of his playing career either. He doesn't think Jonathan Trott came across as having mental health issues either just didn't fancy the short ball and the pressures of the top level. He hates Geoff Boycott for slagging him and other players off constantly.ĭidn't realise Michael Yardy and Monty Panesar effectively ended their international playing careers due to suffering mental health issues. He didn't really get on with the England coaches during his tenure either. He was a big fan of Pietersen even thought he'd be a great captain given the chance but wasn't. Very interesting read (please be aware of spoilers ahead). Yet now is the time to finally hear from the man himself. With 226 wickets in 63 Tests, Harmison’s statistics speak for themselves. Uncompromising, brutally honest and passionate, Speed Demons lifts the lid on the politics of the England and Durham dressing rooms and brings the life of a modern cricketer into stark focus. Yet Harmison is a natural storyteller and he also describes in wonderful detail the highs as well as the lows, including the brilliance of the 2005 Ashes series, the ‘Harmison Arms’ and some of his hilarious tales about life on tour are likely to raise eyebrows and smiles across the cricketing world. To the outside world, the tearaway quick was capable of causing cricketing chaos but there is a deeper – and far more interesting – story to tell behind the paceman who spearheaded one of England’s finest ever bowling attacks.Īnd in Speed Demons, Harmison finally reveals the whole truth about a career plagued with a set of severe mental health issues that he felt he had to hide from England’s management in order to stay in the game.įor the first time, Harmison tells the whole story and explains how he and best mate Andrew Flintoff helped each other get through the perils of playing the sport they love under an intense global microscope. Yet he also stands as perhaps the most misunderstood cricketer of modern times. Steve Harmison is one of the most feared, explosive, and downright destructive bowlers England has ever produced.
